Everyone seems to hate the phantoms equally and because the server is active it means you have to deal with increasing numbers every single night. Normally you would just sleep to reset them but you can't do that when there are at average 12+ players online. They appear in the first few days on new islands significantly hindering progression and making the game miserable. Also as far as I can tell from the recipe look up the only unique use their drop has is repairing elytra. But even that could just be added to an admin shop, or add a public kit. For reference the gamerule that allows phantoms to spawn is "doInsomnia".
