Hi all,

I just had an unpleasant experience with a staff member.

I made an offhanded remark about a global event in the chat, and this opened up a broad debate with multiple members in the chat.

After defending my position to an attack by a Moderator among others, when it was clear the Moderator was defending "not great" positions, I was threatened to be muted for talking politics when the moderator had just been doing the same thing for 15 minutes.

I was not originally talking about politics, I simply made a comment about China, and it's really annoying that a Moderator can just threaten to mute me because they picked an argument they were losing.

It would be much more honorable to conclude with "you've made a lot of strong points, and given me much to think about. I think we can end this debate" rather than forcefully threatening muting etc... when talking about global events is not even against the rules. many people on the server at the time participated in the topic so it's not like it was even an unpopular conversation.

This supression of ideas and differing views is embarassing and shows a lack of maturity, which is why I'm asking for an admin to review the logs on Tekkit SMP from 10:30am PST 4/18/2025 and rule whether "muting players for discussing global events" is in fact a valid threat in line with the rules of the server. I see nothing about this in the rules, so if Admin thinks talking about global events is Soooo terrible, they should add it to the rules, or stop threatening to mute otherwise innocent players over - essentially - nothing.

With high regards and appreciation,

Hi Ellie,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I’ve reviewed the chat logs, the staff follow-up, and your concerns.

To clarify, there was already a general directive in place for staff to limit political discussions in public chat. Staff are authorized to use /mute or other tools if needed. In this case, MechaBanditKing did allow the conversation to go on longer than ideal, and he's since acknowledged that and taken appropriate steps to de-escalate and set expectations going forward.

That said, it’s also clear from the logs that this wasn’t a one-sided exchange. The discussion became increasingly inflammatory, and everyone involved played a role in letting it escalate. While it didn’t cross into punishable territory from a rule enforcement standpoint, it’s exactly the kind of situation we want to avoid. Minecraft is meant to be a fun and inclusive space, and political arguments—no matter the viewpoint—tend to derail that for everyone.

No corrective action is being taken at this time, but we are treating this as a reminder to all involved—staff and players alike—to avoid contentious political debates in public chat. If there's ever a concern in the future, you’re always welcome to report it so it can be addressed promptly: https://forum.craftersland.net/forum/465-complaints/

We appreciate your involvement in the community and hope we can all move forward with a bit more clarity and respect for the space we share.
