How do I get around wither crumbs?

I am attempting to summon the wither with an RFTools spawner. However, whenever I poke the Wither with a syringe, I get Wither Crumb essence, not Wither essence. This does not allow the spawner to work. 

 

Is there some way around this, or can a normal wither be spawned?
