The password is in place to prevent other people from logging in as you. If I remember correctly 1.6.4 doesn't support UUID verification or something like that and since we support offline mode we put this method in place to prevent an account being used by others without permission.

This was not called for. If I remember correctly, Minecraft is a 7+ game and therefore there is no problem with allowing children to play it.

It is not difficult to remember one single password then there's something wrong with your memory skills. However, I can understand forgetting your password after a long period of time without playing, therefore we are capable of resetting one's password and allowing the player to create a new one.
