Astral sorcery mod issue with crafting

My girlfriend and I spent a few nights in game at a large temple for Astral Sorcery trying to get started. We followed the instructions in the book, as well as watching a few videos on youtube as the recipe for the starting items didn't seem to want to craft. We tried placing the crafting table directly below, 1 block further below and 2 blocks further below the floating crystal inside the temple to no avail. We then tried to place it off to the side with no luck there either. We had exposed the crystal to the sky by remove the blocks above it to see if that was the issue but lo and behold still nothing happened. At this point I decided that maybe the temple it's self was at fault as it was in a roofed forest biome, so I proceeded to an extreme hills biome not too far away and tried all of the above again. Nothing happened. We have been unable to do anything else with the mod as to advance these 2 items are required. I have tried with both a Tinkers' Construct and a vanilla crafting table. Below I have added some screenshots of the table being 1 block below and directly underneath the crystal as well as the Astral tomes recipe.

I did not add screenshots for the luminous craffing table as it is the same set up with a different recipe.

AS seems to be broken, the Crystal from the Large Altar should interact with the Crafting Table. A beam of light should emit from the Crystal and touch the Crafting Table.

For whatever reason though, on the Revelation server this is broken or disabled meaning you can't start the mod.
From what I can tell having the chunk claimed / unclaimed / previously claimed has no effect on whether or not the Crystal 'works' or not -
People were however able to use the Crystal when the world was generated or when the server was first started as there are individuals with Astral Sorcery setups.

Astral Sorcery worked but then something broke it
