As the area was unclaimed, anyone is free to claim the area and build what they want. We were using creative to build on our claim and not outside of it which is not against the rules. You can request the claim to be removed after 28 days of inactivity.

Unfortunately this is not a server issue. You can go into unpowered dims whilst holding a Phased Field Generator which protects you from being instantly killed. You might want to take a few with you as backups.
