I have increased the chunks loaded around a player to 8, I have tested and for me it loads a lot more area around, make sure your client is not limiting it in your video settings Or the issue is not chunks, but entities?

Keep in mind that you will need to use the right java version for each minecraft version, like java 17 for MC 1.16 and java 8 for MC 1.12 You can right click on each modpack and configure the settings, I will post a screenshot shot below:

It does freeze when joining DDSS as forge transfers server data to sync the client with configs, recipe and material registry. There are some mods that cause that in this pack so there is no way to fix this behavior, however even if this can take 2min sometimes it did not time me out. I increased the timeout settings to give you time to load, let me know if it still times out

Time for a server WIPE? We did a deep maintenance this week and cleaned all secondary world of data older then 3 weeks.

It's not the maintenance fault, the maintenance only helps on server TPS not connection latency, the server is hosted in Germany probably that's the latency issue, try to join the server using our US proxy on modded.craftersland.us , then use the server selector item in your inventory and connect to DDSS. Let me know if that helps. Thanks!
