Suggestion: Server wipe

First off, let me clear up why i'm making this post:

Yes, the previous wipe was (a mere) 4 months ago, but there are a few matters about tekkit that makes it having to be wiped more often.

1) There has been a steady increase in server lag and crashes, most of these are caused by people having massive end-game bases. We (the staff team) have had a fair bit of complaints about the server stability and there's often a massive TPS drop when more than 15 people are online (while most of the time the TPS is a healthy 20)

2) because of the large amount of oceans and large bodies of water, the map is getting pretty crowded already. Yes, we are removing old towns and regenerating the area around it. But the big problem with that is the amount of mined recourses, we cannot regen massive areas of the map all the time when we're online. (something that is starting to happen :|)

3) though this is not a new issue and will most likely happen again after the wipe: there is massive amounts of creatively spawned items, duped or illegit items dotted around the map. as creative players leave their base and often don't remove the creative items they leave behind, those items end up with regular players (and we don't want to ban everyone who finds those items and isn't aware of the rule about it)

now, this is only a suggestion for @brunyman to take a look at it and decide if a wipe poll is in order.

Also something to keep in mind: tekkit is a very easy pack, you can have an end-game (and often server heavy) base within a month.

But, i do hope that there are more people who agree with me and support this post.

Please wipe immediately. Tonight... I cannot play with my friends. we already lost one base. let's just fix the lag and be done with it.

there has to be some time for bugfixes before a wipe. so IF there's going to be a wipe, you'll have to be patient

Wipe it . We can`t play in this infernal lag.

And if bug will be fixed maybe will be and lag reduced and performance improved

A wipe is not going to fix lag, nor will it postpone it, players get to end game so fast, you MAY get a day or two of smooth blissness, but just one player can crash or lag the server (which happened immediately after this last wipe for about two weeks solid). Day to day, week to week server performance changes based on who is playing and what they are doing. I've seen no trending degradation of overall server performance, and i am working hard to make room for the new players.  If a vote were called now, I'd say no.

Our "schedule" on server wipes are usually 6 months- and that''s also only if the players overwhelmingly vote for it- and us cutting 2 months off that I think we would have to find a really good reason to go through with that- and I don't see enough reasons for it here... I stand with Belgarufo- I vote against a wipe.

I also vote against a wipe. Like belgarufo said, it wont really solve anything long term, it will create a day of smooth running and then its back to tekkit's normal routine. Now some people might say "No one can get an end game base in less then a day!" but really, people can, not any normal members of course, but Premium+ donors will be able to get a server heavy base up in less then a few days. For example, the tekkit server did not crash once for the time I was on, this is because I did not see a high volume of experienced players loading in the chunks of their end game base. And to address the issue of mined out resources, it does not seem to be that major, I never see players actually complain about those kinds of things, the reason for the lack of complaints is because people frequently use laser drills (not requiring any ores to be nearby) to get their ores/materials. The server may need a wipe in the future, but right now is not the time.

EDIT: I'm still open to discussion, but for now, this is my current stance.

Are you sure the lag isn't due to your internet or PC? I don't experience lag most of the time when i play on the server and i have a pretty "laggy" base. The only times I've noticed it crashing or lagging is when there are many players on the server or as akaElite said, many experienced players loading in the chunks of their end game bases.

Wipe it!

Wipe it good!

100% for a wipe.

We also need to do something about people spamming mystcraft worlds. perhaps limiting the world creation limit to 5 per day? that would certainly reduce lag. Actually, that's where most of the lag comes from. When you generate a brand new world and load the surrounding 25+ chunks... things tend to be a big laggy. Also people fly super fast in dense ores worlds... that will bring the server to its knees quickly.

And what is your point?

The point of a wipe is to get a fresh map. Delaying the inevitable is only pushing time around. The wipe will have the same effect today as it would have in a month.

The only point of delaying a wipe is to make more stuff that's going to disappear soon. If you had a lot of progression that you didn't want to lose... then download the map.

If you have that kind of thinking you may as well not play at all. Last time we made it two 8 months correct. I was around for a good 6 of those months. From my understanding we have lost a lot of core members and now people don’t know what bad is. The server is not lagging barley at all

Yes, it was 7-8 months and that wipe was badly needed. People were still trying to defend not wiping because "it will only be sooner that we wipe again." Wiping the server brings back old players. I'm only getting on occasionally to see how many people are selling ultra rare items for ridiculously cheap prices.

You want to see the server die? Then make the prices low. Make everything easy to get. That's what a few people have done - they are selling a stack of enderium blocks for $250... selling legendary crate keys for $100... that alone is the prime reason for a wipe. People get money by voting for the server, and nobody votes for the server if they can just buy everything they need to get to end game.

Look, man, I understand that you have some fear about wiping the server.. but just think about what a server wipe does for the server's popularity and how many people it brings back. It only takes 2-3 months for these people to get bored and stop playing.

I have been through 4 wipes now, I think. Every time the server wipes, people are scrambling to get mystcraft pages by spamming mystcraft worlds. (or they are trying to get a good world with some enderium/mob essence). This happens almost every time. Look at /cofh tps whenever we wipe and see how many ages are created before the server restarts and unloads the dimensions.
